Makenzi Tabor was selected as the School-Level Teacher of the Year at Jefferson Elementary School. A first-grade teacher with four years of experience in Tennessee public schools, Makenzi is known for holding her students to high academic and behavioral expectations while fostering a classroom culture rooted in the belief that “we can do hard things.” She closely monitors student success through both data analysis and daily observations, ensuring every learner is supported and challenged. Makenzi has also made a meaningful impact on school culture by coordinating opportunities for first-grade students to read to kindergarten classes during Read Across America Week, helping younger students see what is possible while empowering her own students as confident leaders. Through family-centered classroom traditions, including holiday celebrations and end-of-year picnics, Makenzi strengthens school-community connections and exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding Teacher of the Year.

Kate Hickey was selected as Jefferson Elementary School’s Staff Member of the Year for her exceptional dedication and professionalism as an instructional assistant. Principal Craig Day shared, “Mrs. Hickey is the most dependable, capable, and consistently gracious employee I have ever had the pleasure of working with.” Known for her patience, perseverance, and unwavering support of students, Kate serves as a trusted interventionist who helps learners achieve success through encouragement and consistency. Her calm demeanor, strong work ethic, and commitment to serving students make her a valued role model and an essential member of the Jefferson Elementary team.
